Can’t start the computer with the keyboard plugged in
1. Problem
OK, so it’s not a Linux problem, and NO, I’m NOT kidding. I have an ATX
power source and an AT natural design Chicony keyboard which I had to plug in
PS/2 with an AT - PS/2 adapter. I love the keyboard and it’s the only one I
could find in the whole town that would have ergonomic design and no useless
“multimedia”, “shortcut” and “Internet” buttons, sensitive pads, scroll
wheels and whatnot. On the downside, the leds remain on while the computer is
off. When I power up the computer I have to disconnect the keyboard and plug
it back in, otherwise it (the keyboard) won’t work. Most wierdly, if all
three leds are on, the computer won’t start at all.
2. Research
I assume it’s about using an AT keyboard with an ATX power source. I’m
really not an expert here.
3. Solution
Turn off the source (from that little button on the back) and leave it for
a few seconds, then turn it and the computer on.
Start the computer with the keyboard unplugged (which I have to do anyway
to get it to work).
2004-02-01: Some hardware upgrades later, I don’t have
the problem anymore. Just in case, I’m now passing the kbd-reset
parameter to the kernel, so it resets the keyboard while it loads.
