BlackBox styles / themes for 0.65.0
These styles were created by me for Blackbox 0.65.0. You can expect new ones to be
added quite often, since I get bored of them regularly. The styles
are sorted in reverse order of creation (newest first). If you're looking for the Artwiz fonts
you can find them here.

This style was inspired by a wallpaper featured by a demo called "Norsk
forvaltningslov for reindrift" created by the Fadeout demoscene group. As you
can see, it's a gray, polished style. Despite its apparent darkness, it has
good visibility and special care has been taken to cleary and easily
distinguish focused and unfocused windows.
While my former styles have all been distributed under the General Public
License, this is the first of my them that uses the Xlife Theme License (XTL).

CurveSpace 0.65.0-ng
Released: November 4th, 2003
Updated: November 7th, 2003
Download |
Freshmeat page
CurveSpace is meant as a match for the BlueCurve themes everywhere for
people who like them but still want a nice BlackBox style to go with it. It
includes a Tux wallpaper, a patch for BlackBox and a lot of updates to the
way I pack my styles.
Starting with this style I will match style versions to the BlackBox
version they are intended for, since 0.70 will be quite different.

This style was inspired by Jesia from episode 5 of the anime series Angel Links. In the show
there is a scene showing Jesia in her room, lying on the bed. I have
recreated the full-body shot using several screen captures (the camera was
moving over the bed, it never showed the entire room at once), and
edited/expanded it to achieve a 4:3 ratio.
It's a dark blue style (figuratively speaking too). I intended to recreate
Jesia's mood at that moment, as well as provide a dark style that shuts out
unnecessary details and lets you concentrate on the important parts of the
screen easily.

Behold the style that replaced LunaSpace after more than two months of
constant use (LunaSpace currently holds the record for time spent on my
desktop). CubicSpace was inspired by a couple of screenshots of an unknown
theme I spotted while browsing the Galeon website. After I ported the style
to BlackBox I browsed my collection of cool wallpapers and came out with a
real beauty: Cubism Tan, which absolutely by chance features the black cube,
the BlackBox logo. I liked it so much that I decided to name the style after
it.

I've always wanted to make a BlackBox style that would resemble Windows XP's "Luna"
interface as close as possible. (My earlier BlueSpaceXP -see below- was nice, but it
wasn't "it".) Now, considering I had to resort to a couple of patches against the BlackBox
0.65.0-final source and the fact that I've put together a related GTK+1 theme, you may say I've gone "beyond the call of duty". Call me anal. I still have unaddressed
issues (such as the unfocused window borders or the close button) but I'll have to wait for
the 0.70 BlackBox release, where many of them (including the ones in the patches) will be
addressed natively.

This style was inspired by a grayish WinAmp skin I was using one day. It made me decide
there just aren't enough gray styles to go around and that the world could use one more. It
turned out great considering I cranked it up in only 20 minutes of inspirational work. It's
also the first one of my styles that sets the bbpager colors too instead of leaving them up
to BlackBox, which is usually not the best choice.

There were many factors that led to the creation of this style. First of all, it was part of my long
lasting quest towards a "white" style that would resemble the Mac themes in elegance yet bring forth
something new. The Artwiz fonts had their influence. The final touch was added by Neon Genesis Evangelion. Somehow, it all came together.

This style was inspired to me by my first contact with the Artwiz fonts. I tried to achieve a
cool futuristic look by mixing orange with gray and placing
the window buttons on the left, in reverse order. Later I came across a great Anime (Cowboy Bebop) wallpaper
made by Firestorm, which proved to be a perfect fit.

One day I got up and wondered just how close I could take BlackBox to the Windows 9x (or 95)
interface. Well now, apparently the answer is "pretty close". Throw in the right colors and
fonts, run OpenOffice and use Mplayer with the Windows Media Player 6 skin, maybe use desktop
icons and some other matching themes and skins (see SUGGESTIONS in the tarball) -- it's scary how
far you can take this. It will fool bystanders from 5 paces, from 2 if they're amateurs. Useful
if you want to fake compliance to company standards and secretly unleash the l33t powers of
BlackBox (BB for Windows, anyone?)

DivXSpace 1.0

This style was inspired by the looks of the DivX Player 2.0 Alpha for Windows, hence the name.
It wasn't until later when I discovered that the purple and gray combination made it a great match
for SentiEnce -like themes of all kinds. Therefore you have the SentiEnce GKrellM skin made by Andras Barany, the Xen-SentiEnce GTK+ theme by Nathan
Baxter, plus the m2n XMMS skin by Todd Weaver
(which isn't a SentiEnce skin either, but features the right colors), and anything else SentiEnce.

I came across Mark Wilkinson's "Einstein v3" wallpaper while browsing deviantART and I just had to make a BlackBox
style for it. Just think about it: a slick black background and the portrait of Einstein
with the BlackBox source code over it. 'Nuff said. The screenshot features an Aterm, XMMS with
the maXMMS skin and GKrellM with the HiFi-black skin made by Eric R. Reitz (download it here).

This style was inspired by Nathan Baxter's Orange Juice themes. He did a wonderful job
as you can see in the picture, by also creating XMMS skins and a matching GTK theme. His
"Whole Fruit" wallpapers are great too, however I chose to go with the Superheros wallpaper
made by Spr3k. You'll need the Glisp and Glisp-bold
Artwiz fonts for this style.

This was inspired by Jeremy Tan's screenshot
of Mandrake Linux sporting an XP theme rather than by Windows XP. You may have noticed it
doesn't actually look much like Windows XP, but it's nice nevertheless. The applications
in the image are the Mozilla browser with the Modern theme, AleVT (TV teletext decoder),
XMMS with the XPAmp skin (from WinAmp) and the XawTV tuner. I suggest the ThinIce Watercolor GTK
theme to go with it.

BlueSpaceFlat 1.0

The flat variant of BlueSpace. No more 3D, thick borders, reinforced
bolder fonts. This is meant to be very easy on the eyes, otherwise preserves
the blue saturation of its ancestor. Nothing particular about the screenshot, just
a couple of aterm's. Well, and Abbey Chase aka Danger Girl, but you won't get the
wallpaper in this package. I was too lazy to ask permission to include it. I will, later.

This was my very first style for BlackBox, and it came out all right
considering that. It features common fonts, big window buttons and
overall it's simply blue blue blue to the gills. It comes with 2
other color variations (brown and green). Sorry for the poor quality
screenshot, but I have lost the original and I had to use a copy
from Freshmeat, which had been downsized to 640x480. In it you can see
(from left to right) the RXVT terminal, gEdit and XMMS with the default skin.
