Experiments and eye candyThis section presents various experiments of mine resulting in worthy eye-candy for the Linux desktop. Basically, all you will find here are screenshots and instructions on how to duplicate them on your desktop if you're willing to make the effort. These screenshots are coming from short-lived desktops which I put together for the express purpose of making the screenshots. However, this doesn't mean those desktops can't exist in reality. They are not just "doctored" pictures. They are composed with real wallpapers, window managers, color schemes, themes, styles, fonts, skins and applications. There's nothing stopping you from obtaining the same if you follow my directions. One thing these experiments may lack is 100% functionality. Example: a certain image may not show the fact that new windows appear with their top bar hidden under the taskbar. This functionality is beyond my purpose. If, however, you were trying to put together an actually usable desktop for distribution you will be interested in such things. But you're gonna have to fix them yourself, I'm only after the eye candy. Terms of use and distributionAll the images and text found in this section of the site are Copyright xlife.zuavra.net and may not be distributed or copied except for personal use and in unmodified form. Personal use means grabbing a copy for yourself or your friends to look at. You may not modify either the images or the content of the pages, and you may not repost them on other websites. For all purposes, directing people to this website is recommended. Quoting the text is permitted as long as only small quantitites or text are reproduced, they are clearly marked as a quote and the source (this site) is clearly indicated. Reproducing the images in forms of media other than digital (ie. hard-copy magazine or TV) is allowed as long as the source (this site) is clearly indicated. If you find the look of an experiment useful and/or good looking and you want to put together a replica for any purpose, you're welcome. You are not obligated to give credit to me, but I would appreciate it nonetheless. 1 YuirenYuiren is a desktop interface inspired by the screen placement and general interface functionality of the Mac OS. However, this doesn't also mean Aqua -- I offer a nice alternative. The experiment covers various applications commonly encountered on the Linux desktop. Their aspect was carefully chosen (were applicable) to match the Yuiren look and feel. The main interface elements belong to the BlackBox window manager. Enter here to see Yuiren. |
