Gnomeria - Gnome themes for various applications
1 IntroductionThere are various Linux applications out there which have the ability to use themes. Some of them are even based on GTK+. However, they do not offer a Gnome theme, or offer one with very old icons. For some of these applications (mainly those which I use myself) I have started an effort of putting together themes called Gnomeria. They are based on Jakub Steiner's excellent Gnome icons and have been edited and adapted to various extents. 2 License and distributionYou are free to distribute and use these themes as long as you do not modify them in any way, give credit to Jakub Steiner and me and keep their name unchanged. Some themes may have additional mentions next to them on this page or inside the package itself. As per Jakub Steiner's specifications, the icons are free to use for free software projects. If you need to use them yourself I recommend that you take them from his site, not from any of these themes. His are high quality PNG images while mine are most of the time reduced, adapted, converted and edited versions. 3 Need a theme for your application?I can put together themes based on these icons for other applications too. If your application has some way of altering its icons without having to modify the sources for that (themes, icons, skins) I can give it a go. Drop me a message and we'll see about that. 4 Gnomeria themes4.1 Gnomeria for Sylpheed-Claws
External pages: Gnome-Look, Freshmeat, Gnomefiles. Sylpheed-Claws is a very nice GTK+ email client. Give it a try if you're an email power user. It has versions for both Linux and Windows. Be aware that there are two branches for Sylpheed. Claws is the experimental, bleeding edge branch, while plain Sylpheed is the milder version. They are quite different. Inform yourself about them. This theme was tested under Sylpheed-Claws. It may or may not work under main Sylpheed, I have no idea. Download Gnomeria-SC 1.0 4.2 Gnomeria for D4X (Downloader for X)
External pages: Gnome-Look, Freshmeat, Gnomefiles. D4X is a download manager written with GTK+ widgets. It works well and offers a lot of neat features. I have found it to be one of the most complete download managers available for Linux. This theme will require D4X version 2.5.0final or later. It will work in earlier versions too, but it will look very ugly. This is due to the fact that icon transparency support was only added in the above version. Download Gnomeria-D4X 1.0 4.3 Gnomeria for D4X (Downloader for X), Ubuntu version
External pages: Gnome-Look, Freshmeat, Gnomefiles. This is a completely revamped Gnomeria theme for D4X, created as an attempt for a better fit with the Ubuntu desktop. The icons from the first Gnomeria-D4X theme have been almost completely changed. The end result is, hopefully, a more "Gnomish" and polished look. I have released this version as a separate package because I believe the first Gnomeria-D4X has a distinct feeling to it that should be preserved for those people who enjoy it. This theme will require D4X version 2.5.0final or later. It will work in earlier versions too, but it will look very ugly. This is due to the fact that icon transparency support was only added in the above version. Please note that, due to current limitation in the D4X theme engine, in order to obtain Gnome icons in the lower pane (the one with the log) you have to recompile D4X from source. There are instructions in the README.log_icons file inside the archive. Download Gnomeria_Ubuntu-D4X 1.0 5 Gnomeria themes in the makingI plan to similarly enhance other applications, by creating Gnomeria themes for them too. Among my next "targets" are the following:
6 Other Gnome themesI didn't make the following themes, but I thought it would be nice to mention them here in case you're looking for the Gnome icons look and feel. Please tell me if you know of other such themes for any Linux application. |
